Utopia

Nathaniel Allen

Lend your ears unto the sound

Of those cloaked in jaded gowns

Let their words become our souls

Conquer fears of growing old

Don’t forget your place in time

If you fail you’ll lose your mind

To this rhythm we will dance

All of us have been entranced

Hallelujah sing the voices

In their trite and worn rejoices

Simple words and simpler phrases

With a depth that only grazes

Over fields of richest language

Desperate to gain the masses

Ignore everything that we know

Lest it bring someone to sorrow

Silent spinning in perfection

Quite afraid of our rejection

If only the best of vibes sell

Why then should we mention hell

Much preferred is grace adorning

To a song written in warning

Flee from those who might offend you

They will be the ones who end you

Utopia

Utopia

Utopia

Guide us now

Do not let us fall

Please define us all

May your words become

Who we are

Wake up sleeping city

Wake up sleeping souls

The thief is drawing near

Here to take his toll

He’s coming in the night

To take the ones away

Who gave their lives for him

Those who bear his name

Not all of you will come

Lost in who you are

Despite the name you claim

Your souls remain so far

Keep your Utopia

It is what you serve

All truth has been eclipsed

By its gilded words
