What Cause Have I?

Everything around me sings a

Song to you, my God, I

Want to sing that song

And proclaim your name Oh,

May this song become my

Own in all I say and

Do that they see you

Not myself

I give

My life

To you, Lord

Take all of me

We are told to sing so

Many tunes about the

Wavering things of life

Shouting what they’re worth yet

When compared to you all

Other songs become but

Empty chorus sung

To the wind

You are

A song

Sweeter than

This life I live

What cause have I

To sing, if not to you

To play if not for you

To live and breathe

And dance upon this earth

What cause have I

To lift my voice at all

When everything I’ve ever

Loved has failed me

And you’re still by my side

The songs of Earth are dismal

What purpose do they serve?

To speak of what we wish we had and

Flaunt what we have earned

Thousands sing of vices,

Desires, lusts, and hates

We fill our minds with all of this yet

Question if we’re sane

Could it be that we were meant

For something more than what

We’ve tried to fill our souls before

With everything we want?

Are echoes of the melody

That we were born to sing

Buried in the lives we lead

Beneath our longings?

What cause have I

To sing, if not to you

To play if not for you

To live and breathe

And dance upon this earth

What cause have I

To lift my voice at all

When everything I’ve ever

Loved has failed me

And you’re still by my side
